Roland CY-18DR "stick muting" ENGINE for SD3 ❗️😊👉

To mute the cymbal with the drumstick, I've created an e-drum engine that uses a dedicated mute zone on the EDGE of the digital ride pad (recommended: on one half of the EDGE zone ➜ You can then strike one half of the EDGE zone to produce a crash sound, and then move a few inches over to the other half to choke the sound (for replacing "edge grabbing" (the conventional method of stopping the cymbal with your hand) by an EDGE stroke*)
or you can
strike one half of the EDGE zone to produce a crash sound and the other half to produce that crash sound as a "Mute Hit" articulation.

--> V31, V51, V71 required

* A stroke, followed by pressing the drumstick against the designated half of the EDGE zone ( = burying your drumstichk into the cymbal pad) works — and this comes closest to "stick muting" of a real bronze cymbal.

The “MUTE zone” can perform the following functions :

1. Replacing "edge grabbing" (the conventional method of choking the cymbal with your hand)

2. Triggering a "Mute Hit" articulation with customized length (i.e., Crash samples that were choked/muted after a (very) short time -> the duration from the hit to the mute/choke is selectable; the mute/choke can be a quick fade-out or, optionally, include the "Mute Tail" articulation ( = the sound of choking the Crash with your hand) , (Of course, these could also be the original SD3 "Mute Hit" articulations, although you’ll often prefer a custom length and a customized "Mute Tail" sound (the round-robins or sample layers of the original SD3 "Mute Hit" articulations often vary in length and/or are too short or too long—which isn’t particularly cool for groovework involving 'stick muting').

Integrating these 'Mute Hits' into your grooves is a great way to create unique groovework ❗️

Enjoy ❗️😊

➜ The dedicated Mute Zone can also be on the BOW of the digital ride pad (V31, V51, V71 required/recommended) that will trigger the mute function by striking that dedicated mute zone.
