You can't choke the digital Roland 18" cymbal pad ("CY-18DR") twice or several times in quick succession in SD3 or EZ3 or similar drum samplers. This is a nasty shortcoming.

So now I've developed a fix for it that makes CY-18DR cymbal chokes work just like with any other analog choke-capable cymbal pad.

Additionally to standard crash-style edge-grabbing, the CY-18DR can be choked by touching the bow area with your palm or one or two (or more) fingers.

To mute the cymbal with the drumstick, I can set up a dedicated mute zone on the edge of the digital ride pad (like on one half of the edge zone -> You can then strike one half of the edge to produce a crash sound, and then move a few inches over to the other half to choke the sound. --> V31, V51, V71 required),
or on the bow of the digital ride pad (V31, V51, V71 required/recommended) that will trigger the mute function by striking that dedicated zone.
(A stroke, followed by pressing the drumstick against the designated part of the edge or bow zone, works — and this comes closest to "stick muting" of a real bronze cymbal),
or you can also mount a small rubber pad or trigger bar next to the digital ride and hit that dedicated "mute pad" or press the stick against it.

The following applies to SD3 (+EZ3 + similar drum samplers) for each method: choking it twice or several times in quick succession works flawlessly ( ➜ for standard crash-style edge-grabbing and/or touching the bow area with your palm or one or two (or more) fingers, you'll need the CY-18DR choke fix engine in order to choke it twice or several times in quick succession).
